Local twins Alex and Oliver Burnside have always lived and worked on the Suffolk Coast. The brothers took over Regatta Restaurant in 2020, The Plough and Sail, located at the front of Snape Maltings, in 2012 and The Golden Key, located in the heart of Snape village in 2007.
Both brothers are passionate about their specific areas of expertise – Oliver loves to create tempting menus, using delicious, seasonal produce from his local suppliers and Alex enjoys providing customers with a warm welcome, excellent customer service and also knowledge of the wide range of Adnams wine, ales and other drinks available.
Celebrating local, seasonal produce and playing a central role in the local community is key to their ethos. They are also proud to represent the Adnams brand, its award-winning beers and spirits. The Golden Key is situated in the beautiful village of Snape, which is a 2 minute drive to Snape Maltings and a 10 minute drive to Aldeburgh and Orford. We are dog friendly and are surrounded by beautiful countryside walks alongside the river, heath or woods.
We also own two other premises…
The Plough and Sail, Snape
In a prominent position located at the front of Snape Maltings, The Plough and Sail comprises of a spacious restaurant, the original older part of the pub (of which dogs are welcome), including a cosy snug, and an intimate balcony area, perfect for private parties. There is also seating at the front of the pub and a courtyard area at the back where warm summer evenings and lazy Sundays can be enjoyed. Whether you choose a light, casual meal or a formal dinner in our restaurant, the menus feature traditional favourites, the best of modern British cuisine and dishes influenced from around the world. Every dish is cooked and presented with flair and imagination and is accompanied by a superb wine list.
Regatta Restaurant, Aldeburgh
Situated in the heart of Aldeburgh high street, Alex and Oliver were delighted to take on Regatta Restaurant in July 2020. Specialising in primarily seafood dishes to reflect its coastal location, this bright, airy restaurant is perfect for any occasion. The brothers have a long history at Regatta – both started their careers there with Alex working for 13 years, 10 years as restaurant manager and Oliver as sous chef for seven years (Alex even met his wife there)! We feel Aldeburgh is a special place and are proud to be located on such a prominent place on its unique high street.
